Pi Beta Phi's Personal Experience
At Pi Phi, we believe that literacy is the key to changing lives. By giving a child the ability to read, that child also has the ability to get an education and create opportunities for themselves that otherwise, they wouldn't have had. This is why we implement our national program, Champions Are Readers (or CAR), in a local elementary school every year. Through this program, Pi Phis work one-on-one with K-3 students every week to help them succeed. One student named Jeremiah is the perfect example of how this program is helping our community. Mackensie, a member of Pi Phi, started working with him when he was in 2nd grade, because his teacher identified him as struggling with reading. Mackensie got to work with Jeremiah for 2 years, and now she raves about what a reading rockstar he is! CAR gives us the tools to make a direct, positive impact on the lives of kids around us, and to show them that we believe in their future.
This year, we are so excited to announce that we will also be implementing Champions Are Readers at our local philanthropy, the Boys and Girls Club of the Brazos Valley. We feel so privileged to be able to fundraise on their behalf, and we can't wait to see the opportunities that are in store for these kids!
