Gamma Phi Beta's Personal Experience

Gamma Phi Beta’s philanthropy is Building Strong Girls and our philanthropic partner is Girls on the Run.

Girls on the Run is 12-week program that meets twice a week in small teams of 3rd-5th grade girls. The curriculum goes over things such as bullying, how to be a good friend and many other tangible life skills. The goal of Girls on the Run is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using an experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Our sister, Sharrissa Stratton, is the Gamma Phi Beta Girls on the Run Advisor. During high school, she had the privilege of serving as an assistant coach.

Here is her story with Girls on the Run:

My experience as a coach has been a pivotal point in my life as I began to grow as a leader. My favorite part of Girls on the Run is running across the finish line at the end of the semester 5K and seeing all of the girls’ hard work pay off. It has been such an amazing experience to see Girls on the Run change the lives of several young girls, making them stronger both physically and emotionally.

Sharrissa is playing a pivotal part in starting a Girls on the Run chapter here in the Bryan/College Station area. Zeta Rho cannot be more excited for the time and effort she has put in to allow our chapter to be more hands-on in building strong girls.
